RECETAS RECIPES

Spanish Omelete/ Tortilla de patatas

28 julio, 2013

TORTILLA DE PATATAS/ SPANISH OMELETE

Ingredients approximately for 6 people:

6-7 medium potatoes peeled.

5-6 large eggs.

2 garlic cloves or garlic powder ( in this case I use  garlic powder)

Salt to taste.

Olive oil (preferably Spanish).

Directions:

1.Peel the potatoes in thick slices. Salt them.

IMG_3651 IMG_3656

2.Peel 2 garlic clovers.

3. In a non-stick frying pan, heat the olive oil on medium high heat. Carefully place the potatoes and garlic mixture into the frying pan, spreading them evenly over the surface. The oil should almost cover the potatoes. You may need to turn down the heat slightly, so the potatoes and the garlic do not burn.

IMG_3657 IMG_3658

IMG_3661

4.Leave in pan until the potatoes are cooked. If you can brake the potato in two, your potatoes are done. Remove from the pan with a wood spoon or spatula and allow oil to drain. Remove the garlic and put into the rubbish.

IMG_3662

5.Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl and beat by hand with a whisk or fork. Pour in the potato mixture. Mix together with a large spoon.

IMG_3665

6.Pour 1-2 Tbsp of olive oil into a non-stick frying pan and heat on medium heat. Be careful not to get the pan too hot because the oil will burn – or the tortilla will! When hot, stir the potato mixture once more and “pour” into the pan and spread out evenly. Allow the egg to cook around the edges. Then you can carefully lift up one side of the omelet to check if the egg has slightly “browned.” The inside of the mixture should not be completely cooked and the egg will still be runny.

IMG_3666 IMG_3667

7.When the mixture has browned on the bottom, you are ready to turn it over to cook the other side. Take the frying pan to a sink. Place a large dinner plate or lid upside down over the frying pan. With one hand on the frying pan handle and the other on top of the plate to hold it steady, quickly turn the frying pan over and the omelet will “fall” onto the plate. Place the frying pan back on the range and put just enough oil to cover the bottom and sides of the pan. Let the pan warm for 30 seconds or so. Now slide the omelet into the frying pan. Use the spatula to shape the sides of the omelet. Let the omelet cook for 3-4 minutes. Prick with a fork in the middle of the tortilla and if the egg is raw, continue cooking the tortilla upside over until the egg is cooked. If you like with the egg a little bit raw, the tortilla will be ready.

IMG_3668 IMG_3669 IMG_3670 IMG_3676

IMG_3675

8.Turn the heat off and let the tortilla sit in the pan for 2 minutes.

9.Slide the tortilla into a plate to serve.

TIP: Try the Spanish Omelete with alioli.

I did it!!

Hola gente!!

Hi people!
At last I did it!!!  My husband did the Bungy Jumping before leaving NZ and…. in my case I made a tattoo!!!!!. Yes! a tattoo!! I have been thinking for a long, long time about it and finally I decided to go ahead.
It was three weeks ago and Lau came with me. I was, or better, we were very nervous. The tattoo artist got right my idea and he asked me: “Do you want to go your house and come back tomorrow?” and my answer was: ” Mmm, no, because if I go to my house now maybe tomorrow I won’t come back. So….I’m ready now!” 🙂
And we went to the chair, the guy prepared everything and he made my super tattoo!! My koru!!! It’s a maori symbol. I love maori culture, and the meaning is: “Koru represents the fern frond as it opens bringing new life and purity to the world. It also represents peace, tranquility and spirituality along with a strong sense of re growth or new beginnings”.
I made the Koru because, first, I love the symbol and second because my live is constantly changing and it looks like I always have to start again: new friendships, new places, new things….
Anyway, after this philosophical speech, my experience was good!.  My experience was like if I had lived an episode from Miami Ink. (www.lovehatetattoos.com).
Thanks to Lau, for her patient, her support and her pictures!! She was the photographer and the result was fantastic!!. I’m very very happy!!.

Day 10: Wanaka to Dunedin

22 julio, 2013

Día 10: Wanaka to Dunedin
Estamos en la carretera. Dirección: Dunedin. Nuestra última parada.

Wow!

Day 10: Wanaka to Dunedin
We are on the road. Direction: Dunedin!
Our last stop.
Wow! I love this city!! It  reminds me my city, Valencia, with its old buldings, the Cathedral, the Town hall, the Train Station…
When we arrived to Dunedin we went to visit Cadbury Factory: is the NZ chocolate’s factory. We ate a lot of chocolate and for the girls were like living a dream.
In the evening we saw the Mid Winter Carnival in the Octagon, the city center,  and we enjoyed the lantern parade, the concert and the churros from Spain!! After carnival we  had dinner in a brewery and saw the rugby game: All Blacks vs France. As usual All Blacks won. It was our last night in South Island.

Days 8 and 9: Glaciers to Wanaka

15 julio, 2013

Día 8: Glaciers to Wanaka
Me encantó!!!

Day 8: Glaciers to Wanaka
The forecast was worse… We had to go to Wanaka ( near Queenstown) and the pass to go was closed and we thought to keep going and if the pass continued close we would have to sleep in Haast but finally the pass was open and we arrived to Wanaka with our friends.
My friends were wating for us in Cardrona, near Wanaka, in a historic hotel, Cardrona Hotel, and we shared laughs, stories and a hot wine with cinammon and lemon: Mulled Wine (NZ) or Vine Chaud (European). I loved it!!
At night, at my friends’s house, the men cooked a kiwi style lamb. It was incredible!
Day 9: Wanaka
We woke up and it was snowing!
My friends and us went to see the snow with the kids and they enjoyed a lot and made a snow man!!
We stopped to have lunch and we kept  enjoying the rest of the day drinking a coffe, chating, drinking some wine, cooking, more chating and laughing…
It has been two amazing days shared with good friends. But we have to continue the trip….

Days 6 and 7: Greymouth to the Glaciers

14 julio, 2013

Day 6: Greymouth to the Glaciers
Oe oe oe oeeee!!
The Franz Joseph Glacier!!
Day 7: Glaciers
Unos encantadores y curiosos animales….

Day 6: Greymouth to the Glaciers

Ufff… Another rainy day…but our spirits are high!!
We arrived to Franz Joseph and we went to see the Franz Joseph Glacier. The track was funny with the rain, the river beside us, the black stones, the mountains, the falls and at the end the Glacier.
At night we did a track to see the glowworms. It was a bit scary because it was night, dark in the midle of the forest but we had two fantastic lanterns (iPhone’s lantern, hahaha), but it was a great experience for the whole family….
Enjoy the pics!
Day 7: Glaciers

Uff and moooreee Uff… Again a rainy day…
With a huge showers we went to the Fox Glacier and I liked it more than Franz Josef Glacier. In the Fox Glacier you can get close more than other and you can see the glacier better. It has been amazing!!
After lunch in a Lake Matheson Café we spent 1 hour walking to see the Lake Matheson. Another stunning route! And to end the day we went to see the kiwis. Lovely and curious animals…

Day 5: Westport to Greymouth

We saw the seals in Westport!! They are sooo lovely!! We were  in Punakaiki & Paparoa National Park seeing Pancakes Rocks. Is really beautiful!  and is so impressive how the Mother Nature make these landscapes so marvelous. Have a look at my pics!!
When we arrived to Greymouth, we left our stuff in the motel and we went to the beach to see the sunset. The weather took a break…

Dia 4: Nelson to Westport

Dia 4: Nelson to Westport

Accommodation: www.steeplescottage.co.nz

The weather has been, again, awful and horrible. Raining, raining and more raining.
We have seen the Lake Rotoroa in Nelson’s Lake National Park, even with that weather is so beautiful! Also we walked by the Buller Gorge Swinbridge, NZ’s longest ( 110 m) and after that we enjoyed the road from Nelson to Westport.
When we arrived  to the accommodation, at night and raining, we couldn’t see the stunning views….. so….we waited to the sunrise.
But before the sunrise we went to a Tavern to have dinner and was so funny and a little bit surrealist! We came into the Tavern and suddenly the owner asked our names and he introduced us everyone.   They told about the Tavern, the small town, their lifes, their dogs… Lol!! The food was quite good. A taste of real Westport!!

Dia 3: Nelson – Abel Tasman

I can’t tell so much about today because the weather was awful, all day raining and we spent a lot of time in the car.
The most exciting for today was that we have been in the Chetwood Forest of the Lord of The Rings. You could imagine how the nazguls ride through the forest…..
When we arrived at home we have enjoyed the afternoon in the cosy living room reading my book and writing the post.
Good morning! Is my breakfast!!

Day 2: Wellington Ferry – Picton – Malborough Sounds – Nelson

1 julio, 2013

Day 2:  14th June. Wellington Ferry – Picton – Malborough Sounds – Nelson

Wake up at 6am and directly go to the Ferry. Target: South Island. First stop: Picton. Direction: Nelson!!!
After 4 hours in the ferry we arrived to Picton at 11am. The weather was stunning and we took lot of photos!!. When we saw signals with “Lookout 400m turn right/left”, we stop and took a photo… hahaha
In the end we arrived to Nelson and I had a great surprise for me there: the accommodation!! I can’t explain what I felt when I saw the house. The colonial house built in 1860s and it is settle in the oldest street of New Zealand. This street is preserved as it was 140 years ago to capture the colonial atmosphere of that time.
When I came into the house was a dream for me!! I was living at the same era that the characters of my book: “In the Land of the Long White Cloud Saga (Sarah Lark)”!!!. Honestly, this trip is a dream for me…. I’m living, seeing, being in the same places of my characters….I’m so happy!!
After the great emotions of the house we went to enjoy the sunset on the beach: Wow!!
